Spanning the urban stretch from Mulund to Andheri, this urban design project envisions a dedicated cycling corridor that encourages sustainable mobility and promotes a healthier, more connected city. The design responds to Mumbai’s dense urban fabric by reimagining existing transportation corridors as safer, more accessible spaces for cyclists, while integrating the route with the surrounding streetscape and landscape.
The project focuses on creating a continuous and legible cycling network through carefully planned alignments, smooth curves and clearly defined road markings. The integration of dedicated cycle lanes, contrasting kerb treatments and appropriate street lighting enhances visibility, safety and ease of movement. Existing trees and green edges contribute to a more comfortable riding experience, offering shade and a visual connection with nature along the route.
Sections of the corridor are designed to respond to the site’s existing infrastructure and varying ground conditions, balancing movement, accessibility and the surrounding urban context. The proposal seeks to make everyday cycling a more viable mode of transport while encouraging active lifestyles and reducing dependence on motorised travel.
Through a combination of functional planning, landscape integration and context-sensitive urban design, the project aspires to transform a utilitarian corridor into a safer, greener and more people-oriented mobility network for Mumbai.
